Évian, June 17: At the G7 Summit held in Évian, France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of inclusive and sustainable development. He stated that in the face of global challenges, partnership, connectivity, and cooperation are essential for shared progress worldwide.
Addressing the summit, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction that France’s G7 presidency has prioritized inclusive and sustainable development. He noted that as the world grapples with numerous challenges and uncertainties, the message emerging from this platform is crucial for the future and well-being of humanity. India’s experience demonstrates that collaborative development can be a reality, not just a dream. When India progresses, it represents the advancement of one-sixth of the world’s population. Thus, India’s development narrative is not merely about economic growth; it is a story of inclusivity, transformative change, and strengthening democratic participation.
Over the past twelve years, PM Modi highlighted that India has made strides based on the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” (Together with all, development for all, trust of all, effort of all). This principle also guides India’s global partnerships and relationships. During India’s G20 presidency, the message of “One Earth, One Family, One Future” was presented, reflecting a worldview that sees the entire globe as one family. With this spirit, India initiated the historic India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), strategically linking Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. This corridor is expected to boost trade, strengthen supply chains, and create new opportunities for investment, employment, and innovation among partner countries.
PM Modi stressed the need to further advance efforts that involve local participation, ensure transparent financing, and set clear long-term sustainable development goals. The ongoing crises in West Asia have impacted the supply of fuel, food, and essential goods, significantly affecting the Global South and developing nations. If we genuinely wish to strengthen international solidarity, the most vulnerable countries should not bear the burden of these crises alone.
He urged international financial institutions to establish support mechanisms that assist developing countries in managing such shocks and maintaining economic stability. Inspired by the IMEEC vision, collaborative projects with countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands could enhance connectivity. By combining the capital of G7 nations, India’s talent, and the participation of Global South countries, we could consider launching the International Mobilization Partnership for Accelerating Connectivity and Trade (IMPACT). This initiative aims to create corridors that connect trade, technology, energy, and new opportunities.
PM Modi pointed out that as developed nations face the challenge of an aging population, India and the Global South possess immense potential in terms of youthful talent, entrepreneurship, and skills. To leverage this natural synergy, a Global Skills Partnership could be initiated, enabling the identification of skills and facilitating the reliable movement of skilled individuals from one country to another.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi stated, “Today, ‘development’ is not limited to GDP or trade figures. The real question is: who benefits from this development? Who is included? And in which direction is it heading? India’s commitment to shared progress is evident not only in words but also in our actions. In recent years, India has signed trade agreements with most countries participating in this meeting. This demonstrates that India’s belief lies not in division but in collective advancement, not in restrictions and protectionism but in partnership, not in uncertainty but in shared prosperity. In the coming years, India will continue to work with all of you to enhance our collective economic strength and build a more stable, reliable, and prosperous global economy.”
