New Delhi, June 10: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated in an interview that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved significant milestones during his tenure. This remark comes as PM Modi surpasses former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for the longest-serving Prime Minister in India.
Puri expressed, “I want to share some thoughts. I have been part of PM Modi’s team for nine years during his twelve-year tenure. I have worked with several Prime Ministers in India and observed political leadership in other countries closely. To date, I have not encountered anyone with the extensive knowledge that PM Modi possesses. His understanding of development-related issues and his ability to provide guidance on a large scale are unparalleled.”
He emphasized that whether it is about natural gas, organic farming, agriculture, or fertilizer use, PM Modi’s knowledge and research on the subjects he focuses on are remarkable.
The Minister cited examples of various initiatives launched in 2014, which PM Modi had already laid the groundwork for during his time as Chief Minister of Gujarat. Many initiatives related to sanitation and urban development were implemented on a smaller scale in Gujarat. While some believed that land issues fell under state jurisdiction, PM Modi envisioned that both central and state governments could collaborate on projects that would accelerate the country’s progress towards becoming a developed nation.
He noted that PM Modi is the first leader to strengthen the oversight of projects at a senior level. In monthly progress review meetings, he sits with secretaries from various ministries to assess different projects. If there is a lack of expertise in any area, he recommends collaborating with industry experts.
Puri highlighted that the work done in the energy sector in recent years has not been limited to government meetings. Extensive consultations with the industry have taken place. Discussions have also been held on topics such as connecting LPG consumers to a piped gas network and changes in exploration and production policies.
The Minister pointed out that before PM Modi took office, there was a pressing need for comprehensive reforms in laws and policies related to the mining sector (coal, minerals, and petroleum). He stated that the government has implemented new laws and policy changes in this direction. Out of approximately 3.5 million square kilometers of the country’s sedimentary basin, nearly one million square kilometers had not been permitted for exploration or drilling. The government engaged with the industry, and PM Modi provided personal leadership on the matter. He mentioned that there were several objections from the Ministry of Defence, Navy, Coast Guard, and DRDO regarding this issue.
Ultimately, policy changes were made, with PM Modi’s personal interest and contributions being significant. Referring to drone technology, the Minister noted that when he was associated with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, drone technology was rapidly evolving worldwide. Security agencies had expressed concerns that allowing drone operations could pose challenges, but under PM Modi’s leadership, India continues to advance in every sector.
