PM Gati Shakti Initiative Monitors 396 Major Infrastructure Projects Worth ₹18.66 Lakh Crore
The PM Gati Shakti initiative oversees 396 infrastructure projects, enhancing connectivity and economic development across India.

New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian government has included 396 significant infrastructure projects with a total investment of ₹18.66 lakh crore under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP) as of August 11, 2026. According to a fact sheet released by the government on Monday, 256 of these projects have received approval, while 198 are currently in the implementation phase.
The PM Gati Shakti framework is supported by a digital platform that provides planners with geospatial data, satellite imagery, and analytical tools. This platform aids in integrated planning by connecting economic, social, and logistics centers with multimodal connectivity infrastructure.
The national master plan visually maps economic sectors, social centers, and logistics networks, helping to identify connectivity gaps that may hinder the smooth movement of people, goods, and services.
It encompasses various economic zones, including textile clusters, pharmaceutical hubs, defense corridors, electronics parks, industrial corridors, fisheries clusters, and the agricultural sector, aimed at developing a cohesive infrastructure strategy.
For instance, the Khagaria-Purnia corridor in Bihar is set to link five PM Gati Shakti economic nodes, including a textile cluster, mega food park, and fishing/seafood park. Additionally, 11 logistics nodes will be integrated, expected to enhance the flow of goods and passengers in the region.
The government emphasizes that as India constructs infrastructure on a massive scale, improved coordination among roads, railways, ports, airports, waterways, and utility services is crucial. Joint planning across various networks can save both time and costs.
To address this need, the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan was launched on October 13, 2021. It has made data from various ministries, states, and union territories available on a shared GIS-based platform.
Over the past five years, this initiative has evolved into a nationwide planning framework. The PM Gati Shakti is based on six key principles: integrated development, multimodal infrastructure, last-mile connectivity, expedited land acquisition, reduced approvals, and minimizing environmental impact.
The primary infrastructure engines of the plan include roads, railways, ports, waterways, airports, mass transit, and logistics infrastructure.
The national master plan involves 58 central ministries and departments, along with all 36 states and union territories. This collaboration enables simultaneous evaluation and planning of projects across various sectors.
On the public platform, 230 approved datasets are available, which can be utilized for site selection, connectivity mapping, alignment planning, and compliance checks. As of October 12, over 23,493 data layers are accessible on this shared GIS-based platform, making the infrastructure planning and decision-making process more data-driven and efficient.
