PIB Fact Check Debunks Claims of Home Ministry Contacting Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi

PIB clarifies false claims on social media regarding Home Ministry officials contacting Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi amidst political protests.

New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Press Information Bureau (PIB) released a fact check on October 6, 2026, dismissing claims circulating on social media. These claims suggested that officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs had reached out to opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi to resolve a standoff outside the Lok Sabha.

PIB, which operates under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urged the public to avoid falling for misleading claims and unverified information. They emphasized the importance of relying solely on verified and credible sources.

The fact check included screenshots of social media posts from a “journalist” and a news channel. These misleading assertions were made in the context of protests and demonstrations by opposition MPs, which took place near the Election Commission‘s office. Rahul Gandhi and other MPs attempted to enter the parliamentary building to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Earlier that day, Rahul Gandhi led around 300 opposition MPs, including members from the BJD, in a march from Parliament to the Election Commission, covering a distance of approximately one kilometer. Standing about 50 yards from the commission’s office, Gandhi told reporters, “We wanted to meet the CEC and the election commissioners, but we were stopped and denied access.”

After being halted by security personnel, Rahul Gandhi, along with Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi and other leaders, staged a sit-in near the Election Commission office at Akashvani Bhavan.

The protest, held in a high-security zone, drew criticism from BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad. He questioned whether the opposition parties were attempting to create chaos. Prasad stated, “Sitting in Delhi, they have surrounded a sensitive area and are claiming that CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah are involved. This is shameful, and I condemn it.”

He also criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for demanding the cancellation of all elections and a re-election using ballot papers, asserting that the opposition cannot win fair elections and is now trying to seize booths and intimidate voters, particularly the marginalized and poor.
