Washington: A framed photograph of US President Donald Trump with Russian President Vladimir Putin has attracted attention inside the White House, according to PBS reporter Elizabeth Landers.
Landers reported that the picture was recently installed in the renovated Palm Room, a waiting area that connects the West Wing to the Executive Residence. Alongside this photo, there is also a family photograph of Trump with his granddaughter, placed just below the image of Trump and Putin.
The photo shows Trump and Putin walking side by side during their summit in Anchorage, Alaska, held in August 2025. President Trump had shared this picture during a press conference last August, mentioning that Putin had sent it to him.
The Palm Room is not open to public tours but serves as a main lobby for officials and journalists entering the West Wing. In September 2025, the space was redesigned from a greenhouse-style lounge into a formal reception area.
On the social media platform X, Landers wrote, “In the vestibule area connecting the West Wing to the residence, I saw a framed photo of President Trump and Putin from their summer meeting in Alaska. Below it is a photo of President Trump with his granddaughter.”
A White House official explained that displaying photos from presidential events throughout the White House is a common practice. While President Trump has been actively working to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he has also publicly criticised Putin for delays in peace efforts. However, he has praised his personal rapport with the Russian leader.
The August 2025 meeting in Alaska was the first face-to-face encounter between Trump and Putin since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. Despite the talks, the war between Russia and Ukraine continues unabated.
