New Delhi, April 25: Significant updates have emerged regarding the voting held on April 23 in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. According to the Election Commission, no re-polling has been recommended at any polling station in both states, indicating a peaceful and fair voting process.
In Tamil Nadu, the assembly elections took place in a single phase on April 23, with a high voter turnout. There were no recommendations for re-polling at any of the 75,064 polling stations. A total of 234 assembly seats were contested, with over 57 million registered voters. According to data released by the Election Commission, the voter turnout was recorded at 85.15%.
The main contest in Tamil Nadu is between the MDMK and AIADMK, with other parties like the Tamil Nationalist Party (NTK) and Tamilaga Vetrik Katchi (TVK) also in the fray. The election results, to be announced on May 4, will determine whether the DMK continues to hold its stronghold in Dravidian politics or if new political forces like TVK and NTK will emerge.
Similarly, the first phase of voting in West Bengal saw enthusiastic participation from voters. Voting took place at 44,376 polling stations, and no recommendations for re-polling were reported. The first phase covered 152 assembly seats, with approximately 36 million voters participating. Over 92% voter turnout was recorded.
In West Bengal, voting occurred across 16 districts for 152 seats, including Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda in North Bengal. Additionally, districts in South Bengal such as Murshidabad, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Bardhaman, and Birbhum also completed voting. The second phase of voting for the remaining 142 assembly seats in West Bengal is scheduled for April 29.
