Imphal, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Manipur’s Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh expressed optimism about the return of peace in the state, despite ongoing challenges and ethnic tensions. Speaking at a state-level Teacher’s Day celebration, he noted that the current ethnic situation is complex but shows signs of improvement.
The Chief Minister highlighted the detrimental effects of strikes, protests, and blockades on the public, economy, and education sector. He emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue and constructive discussions.
Khemchand Singh reminded attendees that Teacher’s Day serves as a reminder that teaching is not merely a profession but a significant responsibility and national duty. He praised teachers for their dedication, stating that the highest quality of a teacher is to treat each student with the care and concern of a family member. He acknowledged the unique contributions teachers make to society by educating and guiding young minds.
Reflecting on his recent discussions with student leaders, the Chief Minister commended their decision to refrain from participating in protests, demonstrating their commitment to their responsibilities as students.
Rajiv Singh Thakur, the Chief Secretary of Manipur, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the crucial role of education in shaping the future of children and society. He stated that quality education paves the way for a better future and that generations are built through the educational process.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister awarded six teachers with the State Teacher Awards for 2026. The recipients included Oinam Ranjit Singh, Salam Sunita Devi, RK Badal Singh, Hanjabam Sangita Devi, Felim Kishing, and Kakchingtabam Pramodini Devi, each receiving a cash prize of ₹50,000. Additionally, the Chief Minister’s Award for Educational Excellence was presented to eight colleges.
