PCB Warns of Legal Action Against Players Leaving PSL for IPL

New Delhi, March 23: The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has issued a warning regarding legal action against players who have opted to leave the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the last minute to join the Indian Premier League (IPL). This marks the second consecutive year that both leagues are scheduled simultaneously.

Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka is the second player to withdraw from the PSL. He has decided to leave the Lahore Qalandars to play for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, stepping in as a replacement for the injured Sam Curran. Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams will take Shanaka’s place in the Lahore Qalandars. Blessing Muzarabani had already exited the PSL after securing a contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Naqvi stated, “We will take action against those players according to the rules. A similar situation occurred last year with Corbin Bosch, who was banned from the PSL for a year, and this time will be no different.”

Last season, Bosch was a strong choice for Peshawar Zalmi but withdrew from the PSL at the last moment to play for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

Naqvi further commented, “The overlap with the IPL is not a problem, as if players are going there, we are also attracting top talent here. We could not risk postponing the PSL, as there is no other time available throughout the year.”

Several other players have also withdrawn from this season’s PSL, including Gudakesh Motie, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Otniel Bartman, and Spencer Johnson. However, most of these players cited personal reasons for their decisions. The PSL is set to commence on March 26 and will be played behind closed doors. Naqvi announced on Sunday that due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has led to an oil crisis, the tournament will now be held at only two venues, Lahore and Karachi, instead of six.
