Purnia, August 2: Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, commonly known as Pappu Yadav, alleged on Sunday that he has received threats to be “burned alive” following a play that depicted the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Yadav questioned why there has been no inquiry into the accused of misusing the temple donations. During the play, he portrayed a sadhu, and several opposition leaders from the Congress and Samajwadi Party participated. The performance has sparked outrage among the BJP, Hindu organizations, and saints.
Speaking to reporters in Purnia, Yadav criticized the ruling BJP-led coalition, stating they refuse to question those accused of misusing donations, including Champat Rai. He remarked, “They remain silent on other issues, yet continue to target me. What do they gain by threatening to kill or burn me?”
He noted that Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has faced criticism for his minor role in the play, despite consistently raising issues related to Sanatan Dharma.
Yadav emphasized that attacking Sanatan Dharma is an assault on the faith of the nation and millions of people, claiming that it deceives God as well.
He referenced an incident during the 2026 Magh Mela in Prayagraj, where there was alleged misconduct involving Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, stating that no one spoke out then.
He further mentioned that during a roadshow by BJP President Nitin Naveen in Lucknow, no one protested when an artist dressed as Lord Hanuman performed. “Isn’t this my culture? I can wear saffron robes to raise the voice of saints,” he asserted.
Yadav alleged that he is now facing insults and death threats, with a bounty even placed on his head.
He insisted that both Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stand with the religious sentiments of all 1 billion people in the country.
Additionally, he called for a fair investigation into the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple, specifically regarding the missing 200 kilograms of silver and the 3,300 crore rupee case.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against Pappu Yadav, Rahul Gandhi, and Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
