New Delhi, August 2: Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari launched a fierce attack on the BJP regarding alleged misappropriation of funds related to the Ram Temple. He stated that the issue of fund misappropriation did not start after the temple’s completion; rather, it began during the stone-laying ceremony. “I do not claim that all members of the BJP are involved in fund misappropriation, but I can responsibly say that all fund misappropriators are within the BJP,” he asserted.
During a press conference, Tiwari also made controversial remarks about Prime Minister Modi and his wife. He emphasized that the Ram Temple was not constructed by the BJP, but rather as a result of a Supreme Court order. He pointed out that the temple’s consecration coincided with the Lok Sabha elections, suggesting that Modi prioritized the elections over the temple’s completion, which he deemed an inauspicious act. Notably, Shankaracharyas were not invited to the consecration ceremony, despite being the appropriate figures to conduct the rituals.
Tiwari claimed that during the construction of the Ram Temple, a piece of land was purchased for 2 crore rupees and sold just ten minutes later for 18 crore rupees. He alleged that there were seven significant land deals during the temple’s construction, with payments made that were 17 times higher than the circle rate. He accused the trust formed for the temple of excluding saints and including BJP-affiliated individuals instead. “Hundreds of crores have been misappropriated, gold and silver have been melted down and sold, and the money has been invested in the stock market. There has been a heist on the faith of millions. We demand strict action against those who have played with people’s beliefs,” he stated.
Tiwari questioned who would be held accountable for the alleged scams, especially since the trust was established under the Supreme Court’s directive by Prime Minister Modi. “I believe the responsibility lies with Prime Minister Modi. If everything is fine, why did Champat Rai, Anil Mishra, and Gopal Rao resign?” he asked.
He recalled that during the Ram Temple movement, the slogan was, “Ram Lalla, we will come, we will build the temple there.” When the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh, he inquired about the temple’s construction, only to be told that it would happen once the BJP was in power at the center. After Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government was formed, he posed the same question and received a similar response to wait. “The truth is that the BJP never wanted the Ram Temple to be built in Ayodhya; they only wanted to keep the issue alive,” he concluded.
Tiwari reiterated that the misappropriation of funds began not just with donations but right from the time of the stone-laying ceremony. As a resident of the Awadh region and a former tourism minister in the UP government from 1985 to 1990, he has closely observed the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. “I do not claim that all members of the BJP are ‘fund misappropriators,’ but all ‘fund misappropriators’ are within the BJP,” he emphasized.
