Quetta, February 27: The brutality of the Pakistani army has once again come to light in Balochistan. A prominent human rights organization reported that the army killed two individuals without any legal proceedings. This incident occurred amid ongoing reports of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances in the province.
The Baloch National Movement (BNM) revealed that the body of Nasram Baloch was discovered in the Makhsin River area on Thursday. His body bore clear signs of severe injuries. He had been forcibly disappeared for one and a half years. Nasram was a resident of the Buleda area in Kech district.
According to the organization, Nasram was abducted by Pakistani authorities on October 12, 2023. He was released on June 13, 2024, after his family protested. During his detention, he faced torture and inhumane treatment, resulting in hepatitis and permanent physical injuries.
A few months later, on August 8, 2024, Nasram was again abducted from his home in Buleda. Armed individuals reportedly entered the house, assaulted his mother and sister, and took him away.
Highlighting the atrocities faced by ordinary citizens in Balochistan, the BNM stated that just one day after Nasram’s disappearance, the body of a student named Awais Baloch was found at the civil hospital in Panjgur district. Awais had been forcibly disappeared from his home on February 23.
The BNM emphasized, “This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a painful pattern of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. Those who break the law are the very ones who are supposed to protect the people.”
Condemning the killings without justice, the BNM appealed to the international community, including the United Nations, Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International, to urgently investigate the enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings carried out by the Pakistani army in Balochistan.
