Quetta, April 14: The Pakistani army is once again under scrutiny for its actions in Balochistan. Local media reported on Tuesday that bombs were dropped in a residential area of Barkhan province, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, including women and children. Three others were seriously injured in the attack.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) also claimed responsibility for killing eight Pakistani soldiers in separate attacks between April 8 and April 12.
Reports indicate that unidentified armed individuals attacked the Pakistani army, leading to the deaths of 12 security personnel.
Following the attack, the Pakistani army reportedly launched a large-scale operation in residential areas, resulting in further casualties. Victims included individuals ranging from a 70-year-old man to a 2-year-old child.
Sources also reported that several bodies were found inside a vehicle that was set on fire during the operation, although this claim has not been officially confirmed.
Criticizing the Pakistani army’s actions, Tara Chand, president of the Baloch American Congress, expressed his condemnation on social media platform X, stating, “We strongly denounce this act and believe that any military involved in harming innocent civilians should be deeply ashamed.”
So far, there has been no official statement from the Pakistani army regarding the incident.
On the other hand, the BLA has claimed that its fighters targeted eight military vehicles in the Awaran area, using rocket launchers and automatic weapons to halt their movement.
In a statement, BLA spokesperson Major Gwaharim Baloch said that the operation targeted Pakistani military forces, Frontier Corps personnel, and police posts in Awaran, Dasht, Quetta, and Chagai, while also attacking communication infrastructure in Barkhan, Zhao, and Mashke.
The statement added, “In this attack, three army vehicles were destroyed, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers on the spot and four others seriously injured.”
