New Delhi, March 17: Following the results of the Rajya Sabha elections, opposition parties have leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Opposition leaders claim that the BJP has resorted to poaching legislators to form its government, a tactic they assert is not new for the party.
Samajwadi Party MP Ramgopal Yadav criticized the ruling party regarding cross-voting, stating that such situations arise when the assembly speaker belongs to the ruling party, influencing legislators from other parties.
He emphasized that while it is challenging for any party to keep its members completely aligned, the BJP’s actions are contrary to democratic values.
Yadav accused the BJP of having a history of breaking other parties and toppling governments, asserting that once a leader is compromised, there is no control over them.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also made serious allegations against the BJP concerning the Rajya Sabha election results. He stated that Congress’s claims have been validated, as the BJP uses money, muscle power, and abuse of power to influence the electoral process.
Tiwari remarked that bribing legislators to sway voting is a dangerous sign for democracy, urging the government to clarify its stance on this issue.
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut also criticized the BJP, noting that while cross-voting is not a new phenomenon, the BJP’s self-portrayal as a moral party is questionable.
He alleged that the BJP wins Rajya Sabha elections by purchasing legislators with money, a practice that adversely affects the public. Raut claimed that recent incidents in states like Odisha, Haryana, and Bihar illustrate this trend.
He concluded by stating that the BJP buys legislators with money, and no one is watching this. The opposition stands united, and if the BJP continues such practices, it will start to lose.
