Mumbai: In the entertainment industry, close friendships and humorous stories among artists were common in the past, though such tales rarely reached the public. During the talk show ‘Koshish Se Kamyabi Tak’, actor Om Puri opened up about some amusing incidents from his old friendships.
When asked about the popular misconception that he is Amrish Puri’s brother, Om Puri laughed and clarified the truth. He also recounted how he used to imitate Amrish Puri’s deep and powerful voice and shared playful moments involving Naseeruddin Shah’s wife Ratna and actress Geeta Vasisht.
Om recalled calling Naseeruddin Shah’s house once, when Ratna answered the phone. Feeling playful, Om asked for Naseer and then spoke in Amrish Puri’s voice saying, “Hey brother, why don’t you invite me over sometime? You should feed me Khan and others occasionally.” He then revealed with a smile that it was he who made the call.
Remembering Geeta Vasisht, Om shared that she once invited him to her birthday party. When he later called to confirm the time, he reached an answering machine at her home. Seizing the chance for a joke, Om left a message in Amrish Puri’s voice, saying, “Brother, why would you remember me? Anyway, happy birthday. Call whoever you want. You have worked with me after all.”
This prank excited Geeta, who then contacted Amrish Puri to share the message. Amrish was surprised and asked, “For what?” Geeta explained it was her birthday and mentioned the message. Amrish, somewhat annoyed, replied, “What message? That must be Om. I didn’t send any message and didn’t even know it was your birthday, but happy birthday nonetheless.”
