Patna, 3 January: A notorious criminal was shot dead on Saturday in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district.
The incident took place around 5 pm at Bhisa Chowk in Dumra police station area.
According to the police, the criminal Ram Babu Rai, who had a long record of serious offences, was reportedly shot by unidentified assailants, leaving him critically injured. The incident caused panic across the locality.
Eyewitnesses said the attack on Ram Babu Rai was sudden, and he collapsed on the ground in a wounded state. He was immediately taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police sources said Ram Babu Rai was involved in numerous criminal cases such as murder, kidnapping, and robbery registered at various police stations. Due to his criminal activities, he had been under police surveillance for a long time.
On receiving information, police teams reached the spot and began investigation.
Sitamarhi Superintendent of Police Amit Ranjan confirmed the incident and said a thorough inquiry is underway.
The SP stated that the probe is covering all aspects, including personal enmity, gang rivalry, and past disputes.
Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits.
The incident has caused tension in the area. To prevent any unrest and maintain law and order, security arrangements have been tightened.
In a separate case, a joint team of Saharsa intelligence unit and Sadar police station arrested a notorious criminal with a reward of Rs 25,000.
The arrested accused has been identified as Abhishek Kumar. He was caught during a raid in a garden of Bhelwa ward number 7 area.
Police said the accused was actively involved in illegal activities, especially drug trafficking, through which he allegedly amassed illegal wealth.
Considering this, a proposal is being sent to seize his property under Section 107 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS).
