Noida, August 18: The police in Noida have successfully uncovered a mobile phone snatching and theft gang, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the detention of a minor. Authorities recovered a total of 13 stolen mobile phones, an illegal knife, ₹2,000 in cash, and a stolen motorcycle from the suspects.
According to police reports, the accused targeted pedestrians to snatch mobile phones and also aimed at parked vehicles in isolated areas. On August 18, the Sector-63 police team was actively searching for suspects based on local intelligence and confidential information. During this operation, they received crucial details about the gang involved in mobile phone snatching and theft.
Acting on this information, the police team apprehended two suspects on the road leading from the Bahloolpur underpass to the Garhi roundabout. The suspects have been identified as Dheeraj, son of Maneshwar Manjhi, approximately 20 years old, and Shiva, son of Kaushal Chauhan, around 19 years old. A minor accomplice was also taken into custody. During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they snatched mobile phones from pedestrians. Once they accumulated a significant number of phones, they sold them at low prices, often claiming financial hardship.
Additionally, the gang targeted parked vehicles in secluded areas, breaking windows to steal valuable items, including mobile phones and laptops. The police have registered cases against both suspects under relevant sections of the law and have initiated further legal proceedings.
Dheeraj is originally from Garhka village in the Chapra district of Bihar but was residing in Chotpur Colony, Sector-63, Noida. Shiva hails from Rajpur Kala village in the Mainpuri district and was also living in Chotpur Colony. Investigations revealed that both suspects have a criminal history. Cases have been registered at Sector-63 police station, as well as at Phase-3 police station.
The police are currently gathering information regarding the recovered mobile phones and motorcycle. They are also working to determine how many incidents the gang has committed and who else may be involved.
