New Delhi, August 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of Semicon India 2026 on September 17 in the national capital. This event is expected to significantly boost the country’s semiconductor ecosystem, as announced in an official statement on Tuesday.
The Ministry reported that the three-day conference and exhibition, themed “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem,” will take place from September 17 to 19. It is jointly organized by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the global industry association SEMI.
The event aims to bring together policymakers, global semiconductor companies, industry officials, researchers, academics, startups, and students to discuss advancements in the semiconductor and electronics value chain.
Additionally, the central government has recently approved “Semicon 2.0” to strengthen the country’s semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain capabilities.
The government has stated that it is supporting semiconductor research, innovation, and design by providing advanced design tools to over 332 educational institutions and 105 startups. Furthermore, 24 startups have been approved under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme.
According to the Ministry, the Semicon India program has accelerated India’s semiconductor-related goals, with 12 projects approved under Semicon 1.0 to aid in building a domestic semiconductor ecosystem.
S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, noted that the 2026 edition marks a significant milestone in India’s semiconductor journey. He mentioned that commercial production has already begun for three of the 12 projects approved under Semicon 1.0.
He stated, “The announcement of Semicon 2.0 with six key pillars further strengthens India’s commitment to building a robust and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem.”
Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, remarked that India is well-positioned to enhance its role in the global semiconductor industry through its talent pool, policy support, and long-term vision.
Ashok Chandak, President of SEMI India and IESA, emphasized that this event showcases India’s efforts to create a comprehensive semiconductor value chain and has become a vital platform for collaboration among industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and researchers.
The exhibition is expected to feature over 500 exhibitors, including more than 240 international companies and delegations from over 40 countries.
The Ministry has also indicated that the event will include pavilions from six countries, ten state government pavilions, a startup pavilion, an innovation showcase, a startup pitch competition, a student hackathon, and a workforce development pavilion.
