Greater Noida, March 28: Uttar Pradesh is on the brink of a historic achievement with the inauguration of the Noida International Greenfield Airport (Jewar Airport) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This airport is seen as a significant boon not only for the state but for the entire country.
Located in the Jewar area of Greater Noida, this state-of-the-art airport marks a crucial step towards realizing the “dream flight.” The foundation stone for this project was laid by Prime Minister Modi on November 25, 2021, and now, after nearly four and a half years, the first phase is ready. Built over an area of 1,334 hectares, the airport has cost approximately ₹11,200 crores.
Initially, it will accommodate 12 million passengers, with plans to expand capacity to 70 million in the future. This airport will accelerate development in the state while creating new job and investment opportunities. Modern facilities have been prioritized, including 48 check-in counters, 9 security screening lanes, and 9 immigration counters. Passengers will benefit from features like DigiYatra, self-baggage drop, and fully digital processing. Additionally, 10 aerobridges will ensure a seamless travel experience.
From a technical standpoint, the airport is highly advanced. It is equipped with the ILS CAT-3 system, allowing safe landings even in dense fog or adverse weather conditions. The airport can handle operations for 30 aircraft per hour. In the initial phase, airlines such as IndiGo will operate flights to 45 cities, Akasa Air to 7 cities, and Air India to 13 destinations. The first commercial flight is expected to commence approximately 45 days after the inauguration.
Moreover, a multi-modal cargo hub with a capacity of 250,000 metric tons has been developed, providing significant benefits to the trade and logistics sector. The airport will be connected by road, rail, metro, and a multi-modal transit system, enhancing connectivity further.
Once operational, Uttar Pradesh will become the state with the highest number of international airports in the country. Existing airports include Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Kushinagar International Airport, and Maharishi Valmiki International Airport. Jewar Airport is poised to be a milestone in the infrastructure development of Uttar Pradesh and has the potential to emerge as a major aviation hub in the country.
