Noida, March 28: The inauguration of the first phase of Noida International Airport and the groundbreaking of the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility has marked a significant milestone. Industry leaders, administrative officials, and experts from various sectors gathered to celebrate what they termed a historic project.
Bob Chee, CEO of Singapore’s SATS Limited, and filmmaker Boney Kapoor emphasized that this initiative is a pivotal step towards shaping India’s future. They noted that the project is not merely an airport but a comprehensive development model that will provide the country with a new global identity. Chee highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, this project will serve as a bridge connecting Noida and Uttar Pradesh to the world stage.
Being part of this historic project is a matter of pride for us as a Singaporean company, he stated. The airport is becoming a hub for international investment and global enthusiasm. Kapoor added that he is not just contributing to development but is actively participating in it. He mentioned ongoing efforts to realize the visions of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, including the development of an International Film City. Together, the airport and the film city will establish the region as a new economic and cultural center.
TS Dupare, MD and CEO of Indian Oil Skytanking Private Limited, shared that their company secured a contract in 2022 to develop fuel farms and in-plane fueling services. After a rigorous selection process, they are now ready with the country’s most modern fuel farm, fully equipped to service aircraft.
Lalit Thukral, president of the Noida Apparel Export Cluster, stated that the inauguration of Jewar Airport will be highly beneficial for Noida and the entire nation. The airport is set to develop into a major cargo hub and an aircraft maintenance center, boosting the export industry and enhancing global trade competitiveness.
Debashish Meshram, CGM of the State Bank of India, announced that two branches have been established within the airport complex—one in the airport office and another in the cargo center. Facilities such as ATMs, cash deposit machines, e-lobby, and the YONO app will be available. A 24-hour forex counter supporting over 18 currencies will also be provided for international travelers.
Brijesh Narayan Singh, former District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar, noted that the land acquisition for this project was the fastest and most cost-effective in the country. The process was completed with the consent of farmers, which is a unique achievement. Despite initial disagreements, dialogue and coordination led to farmer support, making them key stakeholders in the project.
Subhash Goyal, chairman of the Aviation and Tourism Committee, pointed out that new airlines are facing challenges due to slot shortages at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Jewar Airport will address this issue, benefiting not only Delhi but also Agra and other regions of Uttar Pradesh.
The development of a fast metro or express line between Delhi and Jewar, along with improved connectivity and nearby hotel facilities, is essential. Security officer Maamullah Ansari mentioned that he has witnessed significant changes in the project over the past three years and feels proud to be part of it. The airport is set to create substantial employment opportunities and is on track to become Asia’s largest airport.
He urged investors to consider investing in the region, especially with upcoming projects like the Film City in mind. Noida International Airport is emerging as a multi-dimensional development project, with experts from various fields viewing it as a strong pillar of the future economy. The consensus among industry leaders indicates that Jewar is poised to become one of India’s most important global hubs in the coming years.
