Chennai, June 23: The Indian cricket team, under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, has departed from Chennai International Airport for the T20 series against Ireland and England. This series marks India’s first T20 engagement following the T20 World Cup.
The team will first face Ireland, where Shreyas Iyer will kick off his captaincy journey. India is set to play two T20 matches against Ireland in Belfast, with the first match scheduled for June 26 and the second on June 28.
Following the Ireland series, Team India will compete in a five-match T20 series and three ODIs against England. The T20 matches against England are slated for July 1, July 4, July 7, July 9, and July 11.
A key highlight of this T20 series is Vaibhav SuryaVanshi, who is poised to become the youngest player to debut for the Indian men’s cricket team against Ireland. Currently, this record belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at the age of 16 years and 205 days against Pakistan in 1989.
Vaibhav SuryaVanshi was selected for the Indian senior team at just 15 years and 71 days for the T20 series against Ireland and England, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record.
After the T20 series against England, the ODI series will commence, with three matches scheduled for July 14, July 16, and July 19. Shubman Gill will lead the ODI team, while Iyer will serve as the vice-captain. The ODI series is viewed as a precursor to the 2027 ODI World Cup for the Indian team.
