NIA Conducts Multiple Raids in Kashmir Linked to Terror Funding

Srinagar, February 2: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out multiple raids across Kashmir valley on Monday as part of its ongoing probe into terror-related activities and funding networks.

According to NIA sources, searches were conducted early morning in Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, and Bandipora. The raids targeted residential and other locations linked to suspected individuals. Local police and CRPF assisted NIA teams in the coordinated operations. Officials said these actions form part of a larger crackdown on terror financing and support networks operating in the valley.

In Baramulla district, raids took place in Bomai, Sopore’s Jethan, Raffibad, and Model Town areas. Similarly, searches were underway in Bandipora’s main town and the HMT Mustafabad area of Srinagar district. Authorities have yet to release an official statement or further details.

The NIA has been rigorously pursuing terror cases in courts. On January 18, 2019, the agency filed chargesheets against 12 individuals, including Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin. The agency also opposes bail pleas of separatist leaders like Shabbir Shah and others.

The NIA is demanding the death penalty for JKLF chief Yasin Malik in the 1990 Rawalpora incident where four IAF personnel, including Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna, were killed. Witnesses have identified Malik as the main shooter and Shaukat Bakshi as one of the militants involved.

Yasin Malik is currently serving life imprisonment after confessing to waging war against the state and criminal conspiracy. On January 28, the Delhi High Court granted the NIA four weeks to file a response to Malik’s reply in the agency’s appeal seeking the death sentence in a terror funding case.
