Amritsar, June 29: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann dedicated a new flyover to the people of Amritsar on Sunday. This flyover, located at the junction of Sultanwind Bypass and Sultanwind Link Road, aims to alleviate long-standing traffic congestion and enhance travel for over 200,000 pilgrims visiting Amritsar daily.
The government claims that the project was completed transparently, resulting in a savings of ₹11.52 crore from the state treasury. CM Mann highlighted ongoing development projects, stating that by July 15, the state will have 3,100 new stadiums, 3,000 gyms, and 400 new Aam Aadmi clinics ready for the public. He also noted that over 80% of canal water is now being utilized for irrigation.
He mentioned that contractors have been assigned the responsibility of maintaining over 43,000 kilometers of roads for five years. The Chief Minister emphasized that his government is focused on development and honest governance, while the opposition resorts to spreading false videos due to their inability to compete with his administration’s achievements.
After dedicating the project to the public, Mann told the media, “Every day, more than 200,000 devotees come to Shri Darbar Sahib and other historical and religious sites in this sacred city. Our government is continuously strengthening the city’s infrastructure to make pilgrimages more convenient and comfortable.”
He added, “Today, we have dedicated the new flyover at the junction of Sultanwind Bypass and Sultanwind Link Road to the public.” Mann explained that heavy traffic at the Sultanwind Link Road junction near Tara Wala Bridge had long caused delays for locals, travelers, and incoming pilgrims.
The new flyover is expected to improve traffic management in the city and save valuable time for thousands of commuters each day. Discussing the project’s transparent execution, the Chief Minister revealed that the government had initially approved ₹34.20 crore for the project, but it was completed for just ₹22.68 crore, resulting in a savings of ₹11.52 crore.
He noted that the total length of the project, including the approach road, is 985 meters. According to the Chief Minister, the flyover itself is 725 meters long and 14 meters wide, with service roads on both sides measuring 5.50 meters in width to facilitate local traffic.
