Champawat (Uttarakhand), Sept 10 (Kiran News): Protests in Nepal against the ban on 26 social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube have now spread to border areas. On Tuesday, a major demonstration was held at Brahmadev Mandi (Nepal), where traders and locals shut down markets and raised slogans against the government.

Angry protesters said the restrictions were a direct attack on freedom of expression. The demonstration, organised against corruption and government decisions, was led by Yagya Raj Bhatt, secretary of the Brahmadev Market Management Committee. The market shutdown caused inconvenience to local residents.
Security Stepped Up at Indian Border
In response to the unrest, Indian security agencies have strengthened vigilance along the border. Superintendent of Police Ajay Ganpati said that joint teams of police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) are conducting intensive checks, patrolling and combing operations along the India-Nepal boundary.
He added that special precautions are being taken to prevent any untoward incident spilling over to Indian territory.
The protests highlight rising discontent in Nepal over the government’s decision to curb social media usage, which critics argue undermines citizens’ rights and transparency.
