Kathmandu, April 16: The construction of a health sub-center has commenced in Baglung district’s Badigad Rural Municipality-7, supported by financial aid from the Indian government.
According to the Indian Embassy, the foundation stone for the ‘Bhimgithe Health Post’ was laid on Wednesday by Badigad Rural Municipality Chairperson Ghandaki Thapa Adhikari and Second Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
The embassy reported that approximately 25 million Nepalese rupees will be invested in this health sub-center. This project is part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) and will be implemented through the Badigad Rural Municipality.
Local representatives and stakeholders have praised India’s ongoing development cooperation in Nepal, noting that this health facility will significantly improve access to healthcare services in the region.
Both India and Nepal, as neighboring countries, are advancing cooperation across various sectors. The embassy stated that the implementation of such community projects reflects India’s continued support for Nepal’s development efforts, particularly in strengthening infrastructure in primary sectors.
The HICDP program has emerged as a crucial pillar of the India-Nepal development partnership, providing financial assistance for grassroots development initiatives.
Launched in 2003, this initiative was previously known as ‘Small Development Projects.’ It supports small-scale infrastructure and community projects in Nepal through local bodies.
The program focuses on primary sectors such as health, education, drinking water, sanitation, drainage, rural electrification, hydropower, and river training.
According to the embassy’s website, a total of 573 projects have been initiated across the country under this scheme, with an investment of approximately 13.59 billion Nepalese rupees.
Among these, 294 projects are related to the education sector, including the construction of 217 school buildings, making education the largest beneficiary.
A new agreement in January 2024 has further strengthened this scheme, increasing the financial assistance limit per project from 5 million to 20 million Nepalese rupees.
