Islamabad, March 29: Residents of South Waziristan in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have been facing significant challenges due to a two-month disruption in mobile network and internet services.
Subscribers of major telecom companies report ongoing signal issues and frequent internet outages, severely impacting communication and access to essential online services.
According to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, this situation affects a wide range of individuals, including journalists, traders, business owners, and students, all of whom rely on digital connectivity for their daily activities.
On Saturday, members of the Wazir tribe noted that mobile signals have been weak or entirely unavailable in parts of Wana and Birmal tehsils for several weeks. Internet services have also been down for extended periods.
The most affected areas include Sholam, Spin, Tanai, Azam Warsak, Ghwa Khawah, Dabkot, and Raghzai, where residents struggle to make phone calls, send messages, or access online platforms.
Many have described this situation as unprecedented, as connectivity is considered a basic necessity in today’s world.
Residents report that the ongoing difficulties have disrupted their daily routines. Students have expressed concerns about their inability to attend online classes, complete assignments, or access educational resources, which could adversely affect their studies.
Similarly, members of the business community and trade associations have stated that the disruption of communication channels has resulted in financial losses.
Affected residents have appealed to the federal government and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to restore mobile and internet services on an emergency basis.
