The NTA stated that the exam held on May 3 has been annulled due to allegations of question leaks prior to the test. A new date for the re-examination has not yet been announced.
Reports surfaced that several questions from the NEET exam were leaked before the test took place. Consequently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The NTA will present all relevant documents and information to the CBI.
This significant decision to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 exam was made after consultations with the Indian government. The NTA indicated that on May 8, 2026, it forwarded all related matters to central agencies for independent investigation and necessary actions.
The NTA reviewed reports and findings from central agencies and law enforcement bodies. Based on the information received, it was determined that maintaining the current examination process was not appropriate. Given the circumstances, the NTA deemed it essential to conduct the NEET exam again to uphold the transparency, fairness, and credibility of the national examination system.
New dates for the re-conducted NEET exam and the issuance of new admit cards will be announced through official channels soon. The Indian government has decided to hand over the investigation to the CBI, which will receive full cooperation from the NTA, including access to all records and documents.
The NTA acknowledged that rescheduling the exam may cause genuine difficulties for students and their families. Additionally, the NTA clarified that registrations, candidate details, and chosen examination centers from the May 2026 cycle will remain valid for the re-examination.
