NDA Confident of Winning All Five Seats in Rajya Sabha Elections, Opposition Faces Uncertainty: Vijay Chaudhary

Patna, March 15: The political landscape in Bihar is heating up ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for March 16. Both alliances are engaged in intense discussions as the NDA continues to hold meetings with its legislators and leaders.

Senior JD(U) leader and Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary expressed confidence on Sunday that all five NDA candidates are set to win. Speaking to the media, Chaudhary stated, “There is no doubt for the NDA. Leaders from all constituent parties are asserting that our victory is assured across all seats. Until the elections, the voters (legislators) are interacting with each other. Everyone will remain in Patna until the elections, with no other engagements. This will not affect the vote calculations.”

He further noted that opposition leaders have also realized their chances are slim in this election. “They understand the situation. There is chaos among the opposition. Our legislators are active in the city, while some from other parties are under restrictions. This indicates where the victory lies and who is likely to lose,” he added.

Chaudhary emphasized that the NDA does not lack votes. In response to reports of AIMIM legislators potentially voting for the RJD candidate, he clarified, “There is a difference between meeting and voting. There are no statements regarding voting. Everyone continues to meet.”

This election is crucial as five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar are becoming vacant. The NDA has fielded five candidates, while the RJD has put forth one. In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, a candidate requires the support of 41 legislators to win. Currently, the NDA holds a total of 202 legislators.

Based on this, the NDA is poised to easily secure four seats. Even after winning four, they will have some votes remaining; however, to clinch the fifth seat, they will need support from other legislators. The opposition, led by the RJD, comprises a total of 35 legislators and will require additional support to win even one seat. This has intensified discussions around political strategies and alliances ahead of the elections.
