Bhopal, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has secured a significant victory in Bhopal, with a special NDPS court sentencing Rajesh Pal to ten years in prison for his role in an interstate cannabis trafficking case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹100,000 on Pal, who was found guilty of transporting 54.380 kilograms of marijuana.
This case dates back to August 17, 2019, when the NCB’s Bhopal unit acted on a tip-off and stopped a Wagon R car with the registration number HR-26-CE-0346 at the Bhopal bypass in Guna. Upon searching the vehicle, officials discovered the substantial quantity of cannabis hidden inside the trunk and between the front seats.
Investigators found that Pal had cleverly concealed the marijuana in 28 packets, wrapped with adhesive tape, and stored it in a black bag within the car’s trunk. The evidence indicated that the drugs were transported from Andhra Pradesh and were destined for Delhi.
Rajesh Pal, a resident of R.C.P. Colony in Suratgarh, Rajasthan, was arrested at the scene. After a lengthy trial, the special NDPS court in Guna convicted him under various sections of the NDPS Act on October 8, 2026.
Following legal procedures, the NCB announced that the seized Wagon R vehicle has been auctioned. The agency hailed this conviction as a significant step in its zero-tolerance approach to drug trafficking. It emphasized that such actions bolster its commitment to the goal of a “drug-free India.”
The NCB has urged citizens to assist in the fight against drug trafficking. Information regarding the sale, transport, or trafficking of narcotics can be reported anonymously to the National Narcotics Helpline at 1933.
