New Delhi, May 5: NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has unveiled a breathtaking image from the universe. The scene features two beams of light that resemble a mysterious sword, reminiscent of the ‘lightsaber’ from the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.
Scientifically, these glowing beams are powerful jets of energy emitted by newborn stars. When these jets collide with clouds of gas and dust in space at high speeds, they create what are known as Herbig-Haro objects. Hubble has captured remarkable images of two such objects, HH 24 and HH 111. Emerging from thick layers of dust, these beams of light appear as if a warrior is wielding a glowing sword amidst darkness.
According to scientists, these powerful jets are released when energy is ignited in newly formed stars. As these jets collide with surrounding materials, they create vibrant and colorful patterns.
Hubble has taken two images, the first showing a cloud-filled region of space glowing in orange. One of the jets is seen moving diagonally, creating a captivating sight. The second image reveals a faint red haze of gas and dust against a dark background, with a diagonal blue filament clearly visible. This blue filament shines brightly, resembling a lightsaber.
While Hubble has observed these objects before, the new images offer enhanced clarity in colors and details. These images assist scientists in understanding the star formation process and the surrounding environment. Researchers state that such jets play a crucial role in the early stages of star development. They not only influence the surrounding gas but also shape the process of new star formation.
