Nagaland Issues Alert Amid Heavy Rainfall in Wokha District

Wokha, July 19: The district administration of Wokha in Nagaland has issued a public safety advisory due to continuous heavy rainfall. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in light of potential flooding, landslides, and damage to public infrastructure.

According to a notice from the Deputy Commissioner’s office and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), persistent rainfall has led to waterlogging, road closures, and local landslides in various parts of the district. This has disrupted daily life and increased the risk to lives and property in several areas.

Residents are advised to stay away from flood-affected regions, overflowing rivers, streams, and waterlogged roads. The administration has also recommended avoiding unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, particularly in areas prone to landslides.

The public notice emphasized that individuals should keep a safe distance from unstable hillsides, weak retaining walls, embankments, and any locations showing signs of ground cracks or soil erosion. Those living in high-risk areas are urged to move to safer locations if directed by district authorities.

Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution. The administration has warned against attempting to cross submerged roads and bridges, as this could lead to serious accidents.

Special emphasis has been placed on ensuring the safety of children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Citizens are encouraged to stay updated on weather forecasts and follow instructions issued by the district administration.

In case of emergencies such as landslides, flooding, property damage, road closures, or individuals being trapped, the public is urged to promptly inform the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) or the nearest administrative office or police station.

The district administration has stated that it is continuously monitoring the situation and has taken all necessary steps to ensure public safety. Officials have called on citizens to maintain calm, cooperate with authorities, and refrain from sharing unverified information or rumors on social media or other platforms. This advisory has been issued with the utmost concern for public welfare and safety.
