Mumbai, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) has apprehended a 45-year-old security guard from Jammu and Kashmir in connection with threats received from a Pakistani phone number. The suspect, identified as Mohammad Sharif, had been residing in Mumbai for several years.
The investigation began when a local resident reported receiving threatening WhatsApp calls and voice messages from a number linked to Pakistan. During the probe, authorities discovered that Sharif had been in contact with the number responsible for the threats.
Police examined Sharif’s mobile phone and found evidence of communication with the individual using the Pakistani number. Following this discovery, Sharif was taken into custody and questioned prior to his formal arrest.
This investigation was initiated after an incident of vandalism in Mumbai’s Bandra area, which was reportedly followed by threats from the Pakistani number. The Crime Branch is now looking into the circumstances surrounding the threats and the nature of Sharif’s alleged connections to the individual in Pakistan.
Investigators are also trying to ascertain whether Sharif had any direct or indirect involvement in the threatening calls and messages. They are focused on identifying the person who issued the threats and determining if there was any relationship between that individual and Sharif.
The inquiry expanded after authorities learned that Sharif’s father resides in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Investigators are now exploring the relevance of this connection to the case and verifying the circumstances surrounding Sharif’s contacts in Pakistan.
Currently, the Mumbai Crime Branch is concentrating on the communications between Sharif and the Pakistani number. They aim to analyze the content, frequency, and other digital evidence of their conversations to uncover the true nature of their alleged relationship.
Additionally, the police may investigate the context in which Sharif established contact with the individual in Pakistan and whether this interaction is linked to the threats received by the Mumbai resident.
The Crime Branch continues its investigation, questioning Sharif to gather more information. Authorities are examining available digital evidence and other details to determine if the suspect played any role in the threats and if others might be involved. As the investigation progresses, the Crime Branch hopes to identify the motives and relationships of those allegedly connected to the threats.
