Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Meet Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim During BRICS Summit

New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for breakfast on Sunday. This meeting took place during the 18th BRICS Summit, where Malaysia’s Prime Minister is visiting India.

The Congress party shared photos of the meeting on social media platform X, highlighting the interaction between the two political figures and Ibrahim.

During his visit, Ibrahim participated in a session focused on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” at the BRICS conference. He also took part in a tree-planting event alongside other BRICS leaders and attended a gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday evening.

Throughout the summit, Ibrahim held bilateral meetings with various leaders, including Modi, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

In their meeting, Modi and Ibrahim reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Malaysia. Ibrahim expressed Malaysia’s agreement to establish an Indian consulate in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Modi warmly welcomed Ibrahim to India and appreciated Malaysia’s participation as a partner nation in the BRICS Summit. The leaders reviewed the progress made since Modi’s visit to Malaysia in February 2026, discussing cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, defense, security, semiconductors, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism, and people-to-people connections.

They also exchanged views on significant regional and global issues. Modi commended Malaysia for its ongoing support in strengthening ties between India and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

After completing his engagements in New Delhi, Ibrahim is scheduled to visit Kerala, where he will meet with India’s Grand Mufti. He mentioned on X that this meeting will focus on community development, education, and religious matters. Following his activities in India, he plans to undertake an official visit to Male, Maldives, at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, hoping that this trip will yield tangible benefits for both nations.
