Moderate Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, August 5: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecasted moderate rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds across several parts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

The weather department reported that a weak low-pressure area has formed in the lower atmospheric levels of the northern coastal regions of Tamil Nadu. This system is expected to influence weather conditions throughout the state, leading to thunderstorms and rain in various locations.

According to the weather forecast, moderate rain with thunder, lightning, and strong winds is likely in Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Tiruchirappalli, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur districts during the day.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant during storms, especially in areas where strong winds and lightning are anticipated. Sudden rainfall may cause temporary waterlogging and disrupt traffic in low-lying urban areas.

The RMC indicated that rain is expected to continue in some parts of the state over the next few days, with intensity varying based on local atmospheric conditions.

In the hilly regions of Theni and Coimbatore districts, heavy rain is possible at one or two locations on Thursday and Friday. Travelers in these hilly areas are urged to stay updated on weather conditions, particularly if heavy rain occurs.

Meanwhile, in Chennai, the sky is expected to be generally cloudy or partly cloudy on Wednesday. There is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder in one or two areas of the city and its suburbs during the evening or night. The capital is likely to experience relatively humid weather during the day, with an increased chance of rain later.

Due to the atmospheric system present along the northern Tamil Nadu coast, sporadic rain and thunderstorms are likely. The weather department is closely monitoring this system and its impact on rainfall distribution across Tamil Nadu. Further forecasts will be issued based on changes in atmospheric conditions.

In light of the predicted thunderstorms and strong winds in several districts, people are urged to exercise caution when going outdoors and to avoid seeking shelter under trees or other weak structures during lightning and strong winds.
