Minister Calls for Accountability Following Kolkata Stampede Involving BJP Leaders

Minister Dilip Ghosh demands identification of those responsible for the stampede during Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata.

Kolkata, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : Minister Dilip Ghosh has responded to the involvement of BJP leaders in the stampede that occurred on September 17 at the Chorabagan Durga Puja pandal in North Kolkata. He emphasized that the organizers are primarily responsible for the event and its arrangements, indicating that political leaders often remain unaware of specific activities during such gatherings. Ghosh stated that if anyone is found accountable, they should be identified and brought to justice.

In his remarks on Monday, Ghosh noted, “Political leaders and prominent figures are often invited to Durga Puja celebrations. I too was invited as a chief guest at a couple of events.” He elaborated that since the organizers handle the arrangements, any incidents during speeches or activities may occur without the leaders’ knowledge, yet their names may still be linked to the event. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate and called for a thorough investigation, insisting that all facts should emerge now that an inquiry is underway.

Amid the festivities, Ghosh highlighted the enthusiasm surrounding Durga Puja celebrations across West Bengal, mentioning that effigies of Ravana were burned the previous day, accompanied by the sounds of fireworks. With Diwali approaching, he expressed concern that some individuals might exploit these occasions to carry out dangerous acts involving explosives. He assured that the government and police are taking this situation seriously.

Ghosh also recalled past instances where explosives, including detonators and mines, were found in various regions of West Bengal, which had been overlooked by previous administrations. He stressed that the current government is addressing these issues with urgency to prevent any further incidents.

Commenting on CJP spokespersons Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, Ghosh described the “Gen-Z” issue as a significant deception, asserting that certain individuals use it as a pretext to create unrest. He concluded by affirming that their actions and intentions have become evident, and it is clear who is backing them. He urged that any unlawful activities must be held accountable.
