Mumbai, March 13: British automaker MG has officially launched its first seven-seater three-row SUV, the MGS9 PHEV, in the UK. This marks a significant step for the brand as it enters the competitive SUV market. The pricing for this new plug-in hybrid SUV ranges from £34,205 (approximately ₹42.22 lakh) to £36,945 (around ₹45.60 lakh) on the road. MG aims to provide a balance of low operational costs while catering to modern urban families with its design.
David Allison, Director of Product and Planning at MG UK, stated, “The MGS9 PHEV launch is a milestone for MG, solidifying our presence in the large SUV segment. This model is longer and taller than the MG HS, enhancing its versatility and appeal to families and lifestyle-oriented customers.”
The MGS9 PHEV is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 24.7 kWh battery. It boasts an impressive electric-only range of approximately 100 km, making it suitable for daily commutes.
Inside, the MGS9 PHEV features leather-style upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and tri-zone air conditioning. The front seats come equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Safety is a priority, as evidenced by its five-star Euro NCAP rating, supported by 16 advanced driver assistance technologies and a robust steel chassis.
In terms of storage, the MGS9 PHEV offers 332 liters of boot space with all seats occupied, which expands to over 1000 liters when the third row is folded down. This flexibility makes it ideal for family trips and transporting larger items.
As for its potential arrival in India, MG recently introduced the Majestor three-row SUV, set to launch later this year. Positioned above the MG Gloster, the Majestor will replace it as the flagship model. While MG is actively developing electric vehicles, the MGS9 PHEV’s introduction in India may depend on market trends and consumer response, particularly following the reception of the Majestor.
