Shillong, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Meghalaya police are gearing up for a significant two-day visit from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on October 4 and 5 in Shillong. Authorities have announced that this visit will coincide with a prestigious ceremony where the state police will be awarded the ‘President’s Color.’
Vivek Siem, the Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills, informed reporters that comprehensive preparations are in place for the minister’s arrival. However, managing traffic has emerged as a primary concern.
Siem emphasized that traffic management is critical. He stated that the police have meticulously planned to ensure smooth vehicle movement while minimizing public inconvenience. Traffic advisories will be issued to inform travelers about restrictions and alternative routes during the VIP’s movements.
A robust security strategy has been devised, covering all routes and locations associated with the visit. Approximately 1,500 personnel will be deployed, and all necessary arrangements are already in place. Tactical teams and various units will also be involved in the security measures.
Officials noted that the deployment will focus on key locations and transit routes related to the Home Minister’s itinerary. This visit is particularly significant for the Meghalaya police, as Shah will formally present the President’s Flag to the police force during the ceremony.
Receiving the President’s Color is one of the highest honors awarded to police or military organizations for distinguished service. Siem described this honor as a source of pride and achievement for the Meghalaya police, highlighting that it is one of the few police organizations in the Northeast to receive such recognition.
He credited the honor to the dedication, integrity, and commitment of the police personnel. Siem reiterated that the Meghalaya police would continue to strive for professionalism and improvement in service delivery while maintaining integrity in policing.
Authorities are expected to release detailed traffic advisories ahead of the visit to assist travelers in planning their journeys and reducing potential disruptions. The police have urged the public to adhere to traffic guidelines and cooperate with personnel deployed for the minister’s program.
The President’s Color ceremony is anticipated to be a momentous occasion for the Meghalaya police, marking a significant milestone for the force.
