Washington: Singer and actress Mary Millben has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his poised handling of tensions between India and the United States, stating that Modi’s dignified and thoughtful diplomacy has enhanced his global stature. Millben highlighted that Modi’s approach during challenging times has strengthened his position on the world stage.
Mary Millben noted that while there is a personal rapport between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi, true friendship requires acknowledging mistakes. She expressed disagreement with the recent harsh statements made against India by the Trump administration, a view shared by many in the US, including herself.
Millben has been urging President Trump to treat India as a friend and ally, emphasizing that the relationship between the two nations should be based on respect, partnership, and shared democratic values. Millben appealed directly to the American president: “Mr. President, I respect you deeply and always pray for your well-being, but now is the time for change. Apologize to the Prime Minister and restore ties with India. Rebuild trust for the 4.5 million Indian Americans at home and regain credibility in global politics.”
She emphasized that if the US wishes to lead peace efforts, it must adopt a path of peace with India, Europe, and the wider world. Policy changes, she said, demonstrate strength and courage, not weakness.
Finally, Millben acknowledged that while India and the US have increased cooperation in defence, technology, and people-to-people ties in recent years, differences remain in trade and policy areas.
