Maruti Dzire Tops December 2025 Sedan Sales, Hyundai Aura Holds Strong Second Spot

Despite the rising popularity of SUVs in India, the sedan segment continues to hold its ground, as reflected in the December 2025 sales figures for the top 10 sedans. While the rankings saw minimal changes, several models experienced significant year-on-year growth, indicating that competitively priced and well-equipped sedans remain favoured by buyers.

Leading the segment, Maruti Suzuki Dzire recorded sales of 19,072 units in December 2025, marking an increase of nearly 15% compared to December 2024. The launch of the new generation Dzire has bolstered its appeal among private buyers and fleet operators alike.

Following Dzire, Hyundai Aura secured the second position with 4,925 units sold, showing a robust 28% growth year-on-year. Its affordable price, reliable performance, and low maintenance costs have contributed to its strong presence in the segment.

However, Honda Amaze faced a setback, with sales dropping to 2,575 units in December 2025, down 31% from the previous year. The growing preference for SUVs and limited updates to the model are considered major reasons for this decline.

In the mid-size sedan category, Volkswagen Virtus stood out positively, selling 2,378 units and registering a 5% increase over the previous year. Conversely, Skoda Slavia experienced a sharp decline, with sales falling 62% to just 711 units.

Hyundai Verna also saw a significant drop, with only 406 units sold in December 2025, a 53% decrease year-on-year. The company is reportedly preparing to launch a facelift version soon. On the other hand, Honda City showed resilience by recording a 20% growth, selling 943 units during the same period.

Tata Tigor continued to struggle, with sales falling 26% to 775 units compared to last year.

In the premium sedan segment, Toyota Camry delivered an impressive performance by more than doubling its sales with a 127% growth, reaching 200 units sold in December 2025 compared to 88 units the previous year.

In summary, while SUVs dominate the market, affordable and dependable sedans still enjoy steady demand. The calendar year 2026 is expected to bring new sedan launches, which could reinvigorate this segment further.
