Marco Rubio Highlights India as Key Economic Partner for the U.S. Amid Upcoming Trade Deal
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasizes Indias importance as an economic partner and hints at a forthcoming trade deal during his visit.

Mumbai, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio identified India as a crucial economic partner for the United States during his visit to Mumbai on October 20. Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Rubio expressed optimism about an impending trade deal between the two nations.
“India is not only the world’s most populous country but also the largest democracy. It stands as a significant commercial and business partner for the U.S.,” Rubio stated. He acknowledged that while the State Department typically does not engage in trade deal negotiations, discussions are actively taking place.
Rubio noted, “I can say we are very close to finalizing a trade agreement.” He emphasized that the parties are nearing an understanding without the need for a union. According to him, only a few minor issues remain, which he believes will be resolved soon.
In addition to trade discussions, Rubio addressed concerns regarding recent attacks in the Black Sea, stating that the U.S. has repeatedly expressed its opposition to such incidents. He mentioned that American companies have reported multiple attacks on their cargo, indicating a broader issue that extends beyond isolated incidents.
Rubio’s visit to India is scheduled from October 20 to 22, during which he will also travel to Jamnagar in Gujarat.
