Imphal, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has assured the family of renowned musician and guitar teacher Chongtham Vikram Singh that justice will be served following his tragic death in a brutal attack in Delhi. Singh emphasized that those responsible for this heinous crime will face severe repercussions.
The Chief Minister visited the grieving family at their home in Thangmeiband on September 10, expressing his condolences to Vikram Singh’s parents, wife, and son. He promised that the government would provide all possible support to the bereaved family.
A senior official from the Chief Minister’s office stated that Singh reassured the family that justice would be achieved and the criminals would receive strict punishment. He expressed profound sorrow over the murder of an innocent and respected music teacher, calling it a deeply painful event.
Vikram Singh, 54, succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack at his residence in Kilokri village on September 7. He was survived by his wife, son, and parents.
During the visit, Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykishan Singh was also present. Vikram Singh’s funeral took place in Imphal on September 9, after his body was brought back from Delhi.
Vikram’s brother, Chongtham Vivek, spoke to the media, stating that the musician’s death has profoundly impacted not only the family but also the entire state of Manipur and the music community. He called for the perpetrators to be punished severely and urged for a swift investigation and legal proceedings.
Various organizations, including the Manipur Students Association Delhi (MSAD), have condemned the incident, labeling it a possible racial attack and demanding a fair and thorough investigation.
Earlier, on September 8, Chief Minister Singh wrote to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, urging for an expedited high-level investigation and strict prosecution of the offenders. He suggested considering the involvement of an independent agency, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to bolster public confidence in the investigation.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also promised strict action against the culprits. He revealed that the Delhi police assured him a strong charge sheet would be filed within two weeks. Rijiju stressed that the safety and respect of people from the Northeast are non-negotiable.
