Patna, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has officially announced its candidates for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Council elections. On September 11, the party disclosed the names of six nominees for the 2026 elections, as confirmed by state president Mangni Lal Mandal. He noted that discussions are still ongoing regarding two additional seats.
According to the list released by the RJD, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh will be the candidate for the Patna teacher seat, while Dileep Kumar has been selected for the Patna graduate seat. Nitish Kumar has been nominated for the Koshi graduate seat, and Anil Kumar Jha will contest from the Darbhanga graduate seat. Additionally, Professor Jairam Yadav is the candidate for the Saran teacher seat, and Dr. Rashmi Vinayak Gautam will represent the Tirhut graduate seat.
Under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD has made its move for these six seats. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, a former legislator from Patna, has been trusted with another chance. Singh lost the assembly elections last year from the Parbatta seat in Khagaria district, previously serving as a member from the Janata Dal (United) before joining the RJD.
The elections will take place for a total of eight seats in the Bihar Legislative Council, with terms expiring on November 16. These include seats reserved for graduates and teachers. While the RJD has announced its candidates for six seats, deliberations are still ongoing for the remaining two.
An announcement regarding the election date is expected soon. This year’s MLC election could see a triangular or quadrangular contest, with the NDA supported by the JD(U) and BJP on one side, and the RJD-backed Mahagathbandhan on the other. Additionally, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party is preparing to field candidates for all eight seats, adding further intrigue to the competition. Independent candidates may also enter the fray in various constituencies.
