Imphal, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister N. Biren Singh chaired a high-level meeting on law and order in Imphal on September 17, focusing on maintaining peace in the unrest-stricken state of Manipur. The meeting was prompted by recent violent incidents in the districts of Jiribam, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, and Noney, which resulted in the deaths of six women and ten others, primarily from the Kuki-Zo tribal community.
Earlier this month, security forces engaged in a confrontation in Churachandpur district, leading to the deaths of at least two militants from the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) and injuries to two others.
A senior official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reported that the meeting aimed to review the current law and order situation. Discussions also included identifying new sensitive areas and deploying security personnel if necessary to safeguard public interests.
With the work season approaching, officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and contractors are preparing to expedite their projects over the next six months. The government anticipates significant improvements in infrastructure development.
Chief Minister Singh emphasized that the government would provide necessary security support to accelerate ongoing projects. Security agencies have been instructed to ensure that infrastructure development is not disrupted and adequate protection is maintained.
The meeting included key figures such as Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh, Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh, Chief Secretary Rajiv Singh Thakur, and Director General of Police Mukesh Singh, among others. Senior officials from various security agencies, including the Assam Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were also present.
Meanwhile, organizations from the Kuki-Zo community, including the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), have blamed Naga groups NSCN-IM and ZUF-K for the recent violence, linking it to attacks and killings of Kuki citizens in Jiribam, Tamenglong, and Noney districts.
