Man Arrested in Gujarat for Bribery, 49 Lakhs in Cash Seized
A man was arrested in Anand, Gujarat, for accepting a bribe of 2 lakhs, with 49 lakhs in cash discovered in his car.
Anand, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant operation on October 29, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended a man in Anand, Gujarat, for allegedly accepting a bribe of 2 lakhs. During the search of his vehicle, authorities discovered a staggering 49 lakhs in cash, which they deemed suspicious.
The arrested individual has been identified as Dilipbhai, also known as Deepubhai Patel. He is accused of soliciting the bribe in connection with an investigation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Anand. A second suspect, V.N. Rathod, a sub-inspector with the SOG, was reportedly not present during the sting operation.
According to the ACB, both suspects had demanded 2 lakhs from the complainant. This sum was allegedly requested in exchange for unfreezing a bank account that had been locked as part of a case investigated by the Anand Town Police Station. Additionally, they sought the bribe to assure the complainant that he would not be arrested in the matter.
Instead of paying the bribe, the complainant contacted the ACB and filed a report. Subsequently, the bureau devised a plan to conduct a sting operation on the same day. During this operation, Dilipbhai Patel was caught red-handed accepting the full bribe amount. The ACB recovered the entire sum.
The operation took place outside the SOG office in Anand, where the exchange occurred inside Patel’s Maruti Suzuki Ciaz car. During the search, the ACB team, in the presence of witnesses, found the 49 lakhs in cash, raising questions about its origin and intended use.
Led by Inspector D.N. Patel from the Ahmedabad ACB’s Field-1 unit, the investigation revealed initial allegations of bribery against both Dilipbhai Patel and sub-inspector V.N. Rathod. While Patel has been arrested, Rathod was absent at the time of the operation.
