Entrepreneurs in Ludhiana express optimism over the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme, aimed at boosting sports and youth health.

Ludhiana, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Entrepreneurs in Ludhiana expressed their delight over the recent approval of the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme by the central government. They believe this initiative will significantly promote sports in the country and contribute to the health of the youth.
D.S. Chawla, former president of the United Cycle Parts and Manufacturers Association, thanked the Modi government for this positive decision. He emphasized that the scheme would enhance sports participation and foster healthier lifestyles among young people.
Chawla noted that the sports sector has long been overlooked. However, in today’s mobile era, supporting this sector can lead to positive changes in public health. He highlighted cycling as an excellent form of exercise that engages the entire body.
Another businessman from the cycling industry, Harvinder Singh, remarked that the initiative launched by the Prime Minister to bolster manufacturing units is commendable. However, he stressed that the benefits of this scheme must reach grassroots levels to ensure small traders can also take advantage. Currently, he pointed out, larger businesses tend to benefit more from such initiatives, leaving smaller traders at a disadvantage.
On Wednesday, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet approved the Khelo India Sports Equipment Manufacturing Scheme with a total budget allocation of ₹1,856.67 crores for the period from 2026 to 2033-34. This initiative was first announced in the Union Budget for 2026-27. Its objectives include bolstering India’s sports equipment manufacturing base through targeted support for investment, technology adoption, research and innovation, skill development, quality certification, and market development. The scheme is expected to foster the growth of a globally competitive sports equipment industry and enhance India’s role in global supply chains.
Aligned with the Khelo Bharat Policy 2025, Make in India, and the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, the scheme aims to attract investment, create job opportunities, strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, and enhance the global competitiveness of Indian sports equipment.
