BJP Demands Justice for Youth Amid Kerala PSC Irregularities

BJP urges Keralas Governor for action on PSC irregularities, seeking justice for affected youth and accountability from the government.

Thiruvananthapuram, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met with the Governor of Kerala on Thursday to address alleged irregularities within the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC). Following the meeting, BJP state president and legislator Rajeev Chandrasekhar spoke to the media, emphasizing the seriousness of the PSC recruitment scandal and calling for decisive measures to secure justice for the youth through legal channels.

Chandrasekhar noted that Governor Om Prakash Mathur expressed agreement with the previous governor, Rajendra Arlekar, regarding the need for action and assured that he would adopt a supportive stance to help the youth.

Prior to his departure from the governorship of Tamil Nadu, Arlekar had written to President Droupadi Murmu, recommending the removal of PSC chairman M.R. Baiju and other commission members. This recommendation followed the emergence of alleged irregularities in the Kerala State Planning Board’s ranking list.

The delegation included BJP legislative party leader B.B. Gopakumar, national executive member and legislator V. Muraleedharan, Youth Morcha in-charge advocate P. Sudheer, and Youth Morcha state vice president Shijil.

Chandrasekhar also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that while Gandhi claims to advocate for students and youth across the country, he remains silent on the alleged injustices faced by the youth in Kerala regarding the PSC.

He urged Congress to adopt a consistent approach to student rights, particularly concerning the issues faced by Kerala’s youth. Chandrasekhar emphasized that the BJP would continue to raise the issue until justice is served.

BJP legislator B.B. Gopakumar accused Chief Minister V.D. Satheeshan’s government of failing to address the demands of PSC rank holders, who had resorted to drastic measures, including shaving their heads, to draw attention to their plight.

He claimed that the government remained indifferent for nearly 150 days before action was taken, prompted by the Governor’s recommendation for presidential intervention under Article 317 of the Constitution.

From the outset, the BJP has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities within the PSC and accountability for those responsible. This move comes as the Crime Branch’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the case linked to the planning board, has questioned PSC chairman Dr. M.R. Baiju and three other commission members.

On Wednesday, the SIT arrested a retired PSC employee, while another active employee remains at large, with charges pending against them.
