Mumbai, March 15: Senior advocate and former MP Majid Memon has raised serious concerns regarding the recent detention of Ladakh climate activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA). He questioned the basis of this detention, asking, “Where have the evidences gone?”
In an interview, Memon criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly attempting to manipulate the upcoming assembly elections. He stated, “If a social activist or an opposition figure makes statements that displease the government, they are slapped with the NSA, which allows for no hearings. They are detained without due process, only to have the order revoked later. What has changed? Has a new situation arisen that necessitated this withdrawal?”
Memon further noted, “We see prominent BJP leaders, including the Prime Minister and Home Minister, camped out there, loudly declaring their intent to topple Mamata Didi’s government. The message is clear: they are determined to win elections by any means necessary, even if it involves misusing agencies and the Election Commission.”
He added, “The BJP dreams of capturing West Bengal and Tamil Nadu in the upcoming elections. They believe they have secured most states under their control and now aim to bring the remaining states into their fold, turning the entire country saffron.”
