New Delhi, June 10: In a significant move for Andhra Pradesh, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved extensive infrastructure development for the new capital, Amaravati. This initiative includes the establishment of central government offices and residential accommodations for employees. The Cabinet has sanctioned the Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) and General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) projects, aimed at consolidating central offices in one location while providing improved housing facilities for staff.
An official statement revealed that a modern central office complex will be constructed on a 5.53-acre site in Amaravati. The project will feature two large office buildings, one with 13 floors, including the ground floor, and the other with 10 floors. Both buildings will include office spaces, parking, and essential amenities.
The complex will encompass approximately 23.25 lakh square feet, accommodating around 8,000 officials and staff, along with parking for about 1,800 vehicles. The estimated cost of this project is ₹1,299.08 crore, funded through budgetary support from the central government.
The government believes that bringing various central departments together in one complex will enhance coordination and expedite administrative processes. This will enable citizens of Andhra Pradesh to access central government services more effectively.
The statement further noted that the office complex will be designed in accordance with modern and environmentally friendly standards. The buildings will focus on energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable construction techniques. The project aims to achieve a GRIHA 4-star rating and will comply with the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024 standards.
The complex will also feature facilities such as banks, ATMs, a post office, a creche, recreational rooms, a women’s lounge, a 100-seat conference hall, a 500-seat multipurpose hall, and four canteens. Accessibility for persons with disabilities will be a priority in the design.
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the GPRA project in Amaravati, which will be the first of its kind in the region. This initiative aims to provide better and affordable housing for central employees, enhancing their productivity and quality of life.
The residential project will be developed on 17 acres of land, consisting of 11 residential towers with a total of 1,504 housing units across various categories. The complex will also include parking for approximately 1,972 cars.
The total constructed area for this project is estimated to be around 31.30 lakh square feet, with an estimated cost of ₹1,234.91 crore, also funded by the central government.
The new residential complex will offer amenities such as banks, ATMs, a post office, a creche, a community building, a food court, a shopping complex, a service center, and a guest house. The design will ensure full accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Both projects are expected to generate significant employment opportunities. During the construction phase, approximately 7 lakh man-days of employment will be created annually, with an additional 50,000 man-days of employment opportunities during the operational phase of the projects.
