Major Expansion of Magenta Line Enhances Connectivity for Delhi Residents

New Delhi, February 11: The Delhi Metro is set to undergo a significant transformation. The Magenta Line will become the longest line in the network, surpassing the Pink Line.

To improve connectivity for passengers, 17 new interchange stations will be constructed as part of this corridor expansion. Once completed, the Magenta Line will facilitate easier travel across Delhi for commuters.

On Wednesday, a Delhi Metro official announced that this expansion is expected to greatly enhance cross-city connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region. The project includes 17 interchange stations and several underground stations along the extended corridor. The recently approved fourth and fifth phases will extend the Magenta Line from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, passing through Central Vista. The total length of the Magenta Line will reach approximately 89 kilometers, making it the longest corridor in the Delhi Metro network.

Anuj Dayal, the Principal Executive Director of DMRC, provided details about the project. The line will run from Botanical Garden to Indralok and will operate as a fully automated metro corridor once completed. After the expansion, the Magenta Line will feature 21 interchange stations, increasing from the current four: Kalkaji Mandir, Botanical Garden, Janakpuri West, and Hauz Khas.

The expansion will add interchange stations at Kalindi Kunj, Chirag Delhi, Terminal-1 IGI Airport, Piragadhi, Pitampura (Madhuban Chowk), Haiderpur Badli Mor, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Pulbangash, Nabi Karim, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Indraprastha, Delhi Gate, New Delhi, and Indralok. Additionally, Central Secretariat, Azadpur, New Delhi, and Indralok will become triple interchange stations, improving connectivity to every corner of Delhi. Upon completion of the fourth and fifth phases, the Magenta Line corridor will consist of 65 stations, with 40 of them being underground.
