Ranchi, April 15: A fierce encounter occurred on Wednesday in the Saranda forest area of Jharkhand’s Chaibasa between security forces and a banned Naxalite organization. The clash involved the notorious Naxal leader Misir Besra and his group, who have a bounty of one crore rupees on their heads.
Initial reports indicate that several Naxalites may have been killed during the encounter. Additionally, a soldier from the Cobra Battalion sustained injuries and is being prepared for airlifting to Ranchi for medical treatment. According to sources, the gunfire erupted around 10 AM in the dense forests between the villages of Marang Ponga and Baliba, located in the Chotanagpur police station area of West Singhbhum district.
The police had received intelligence that the infamous Naxal leader Misir Besra was planning to shift his camp with his squad. Acting on this information, a joint team of the Cobra Battalion, Jharkhand Jaguar, and district police launched an intensive search operation in the area.
As the forces began to encircle the Naxalites in the interior of the forest, the Maoists opened fire indiscriminately. In response, the security forces retaliated and gained the upper hand against the Naxalites.
Sources suggest that precise firing from the soldiers resulted in the death of four Naxalites, with several others likely injured. However, due to the dense forest and difficult terrain, the police have not yet been able to recover the bodies or make an official confirmation.
Reports indicate that alongside Misir Besra, other notorious Naxalites such as Mochu, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin were also present in the group. Following the encounter, security forces have intensified their search operations in the entire area. The injured Cobra soldier is currently undergoing procedures to be shifted from Chaibasa to Ranchi for better treatment.
