
Chandigarh, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab police achieved a significant breakthrough in their fight against drug and arms trafficking. A counter-intelligence team from Amritsar successfully dismantled a major smuggling operation and apprehended four suspects.
Authorities seized 27 kilograms of heroin, a modern .30 bore PX5 pistol, and three cartridges from the arrested individuals. The estimated street value of the heroin is in the millions.
The Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab shared details of this operation on the social media platform X. He noted that the operation was meticulously planned, based on intelligence gathered, leading to the suspects’ capture in Amritsar.
Initial investigations revealed startling connections. The arrested individuals were allegedly operating under the direction of a primary handler based in Dubai. This smuggling module was in direct contact with Pakistani traffickers. Investigators uncovered that the Dubai-based individual was orchestrating the entire network, facilitating the transport of heroin and weapons across the India-Pakistan border. The four suspects intended to distribute the seized drugs across various districts in Punjab and other states.
An FIR has been filed under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act at the Amritsar State Special Operation Cell police station. Authorities are now conducting in-depth interrogations of the suspects to trace both the backward and forward links of this trafficking network.
Police are actively identifying other individuals connected to this module, with further arrests anticipated. Investigations are also underway to determine the intended use of the seized pistol and any potential links to gangsters or terrorist groups.
Punjab police reiterated their commitment to monitoring cross-border smuggling closely. They are intensifying efforts to eradicate drug trafficking, illegal arms supply, and organized crime in the state. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.
